The Neurosurgery department is immediately looking for an all-around Neurosurgeon
There is an immediate opportunity for a Full-time neurosurgeon for the Caribbean neurosurgical center at Curaçao Medical Center.
The Neurology department at Curaçao Medical Center has been operational since 2016 and consists of 5 Full-time neurologists who take on the entire palette of neuro care with room for areas of interest, providing care at an academic level. With the arrival of the current neurosurgeon in 2017, investments were made into the most common equipment for the department to perform operations. Hospital and the department were transferred from the old Sint Elisabeth hospital (SEHOS) to the “state of the art” Curaçao Medical Center in 2019.
Together with one neurosurgeon, supported by Erasmus MC and Leiden/The Hague Spine group, they form the Neuro group. This is a close-knit team, consisting of young dynamic specialists who take on the entire palette of neuro care. Spinal care is usually challenging, with other aspects of neurosurgery such as skull base pathology, (opportunity for) cerebrospinal infections, and complex spinal pathology regularly reviewed. Various scientific branches have been set up in addition to regular neuro care.
There is currently a growing need for neurological and neurosurgical care for Curaçao and surrounding islands.

The Emergency Department
The Emergency Department (ED) of Curaçao Medical Center is a busy department with an average of 22,000 patients per year. There are also multiple challenging cases for the diagnostic specialisms like acute kidney failure, sickle cell crisis, CVAs and acute heart failure. Main tasks:
- Examining and treating referred and unreferred patients who visit the Emergency Department with the aim of optimizing patient treatment or targeted referral to the most relevant specialist;

Our profile
Curaçao is an island within the Kingdom of the Netherlands with approximately 160,000 inhabitants. The island and the healthcare system are in full development offering many possibilities. In November 2019, the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), a state-of-the-art hospital with broad specialist medical care, was opened. The hospital is a center with almost all basic specialist functions and a large number of top clinical functions.
The Pediatrics department currently consists of 9 pediatricians, three of whom are neonatologists. They form a team with a pleasant working atmosphere, constructive consultation and a training climate that is highly valued by physician assistants. There is a Sub-specialist pediatric expertise in the field of cardiology (pediatric cardiologist), endocrinology, hematology, nephrology and neonatology, with a growing central role for the islands in the Dutch Kingdom.
In addition to general pediatric care, high-quality level III neonatal intensive care is provided in the NICU (8 IC beds). The Pediatrics department offers a very diverse and high standard training climate. There is a longstanding affiliation with the UMCG (Groningen, Netherlands) and EKZ/AMC (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and recently also the UZB (Brussels) and the UZG (Ghent). We are looking for a Gynecologist (1 FTE)
The hospital:
Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is located on Curaçao, an island of 150,000 inhabitants, which is part of the Dutch-Caribbean. The state-of-the art hospital of 300 beds provides care to patients of Curaçao as well as those from regional islands. Next to its more than 20 in-house specializations, CMC also functions as a tertiary referral hospital for among others, gynecological oncology, threatened preterm births, and advanced fetal ultrasound. Births at CMC average 1,200 on an annual basis. An active midwife also meets with the department every quarter, and an average of 400 births per year take place in primary care. The gynecology services are divided among 9 gynecologists in a 24/7 department that is supported by physician assistants (ANIOS).
To enable our gynecologists in quality treatment of their patients, we offer endoscopic surgery and have advanced ultrasound equipment as well as facilities for colposcopy. In addition to its 7 operating rooms, the hospital also has a small clinical operating room, referred to as POK, for minor procedures that are performed under local anesthetic. For preterm births, CMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care accommodates 11 beds for neonates starting at 25 weeks.
Knowledge sharing is very important within the department, so multidisciplinary working group meetings such as that of oncology and perinatology take place on a weekly basis. The gynecology team also provides and education program to interns who mainly come from the University Medical Center Groningen, Netherlands.

The hospital
The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is the only general hospital in Curaçao. The primary catchment area is the island of Curaçao with 160,000 inhabitants. The department
The department currently consists of four pulmonologists (3.6 FTE). The group will expand to 5.0 FTE in 2023. Pulmonary medicine is fully operational. There are A(N)IOS for A&E, clinic and the evening, night and weekend shift, in collaboration with internal medicine and cardiology. The quality of care is partly maintained by (video) MDOs for various differentiation areas. Thoracic Surgery and Radiotherapy is done in-house. There is also good cooperation outside the hospital with the tuberculosis service, sleep center and rehabilitation clinic.

The organization
Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is a new, state-of-the-art 300-bed hospital, providing specialized medical care to the island of Curaçao and the neighboring Dutch Caribbean islands.
Purpose of the position:
At Curaçao Medical Center, we are looking for a Radiation Oncologist who, together with two other colleagues, will take the Radiation Therapy Department to the next level. The department has two Linacs (Elekta), a CT-sim, Monaco-TPS and an HDR after loader. You must have a broad range of interests and you work collaboratively with doctors from other hospitals in the region.
Position within the company:
The medical specialist is part of the Hemato/Oncology/Radiotherapy Service Line and of the medical staff.
Job requirements:
- Specialization as a radiation oncologist with BIG and RGS registration;
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration;
- Professional and enterprising attitude;
- Customer-oriented attitude towards both patients and partners within the department;
- Independence is required when performing work with due observance of legal provisions, professional standards and organizational frameworks, whereby complex issues must be solved when diagnosing and treating complex issues;
- Social skills such as tact, listening skills, empathy, motivation and stimulation are required in treatment relationships with patients and colleagues;
- Patient and result-oriented attitude and behavior;
- Able to work both independently and in a team;
- You have a good level of English and/or Spanish and are willing to learn Papiamento.
