Welcome to the Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation department at Curaçao Medical Center (CMC). Our team provides specialized care exclusively for patients who are admitted to the hospital. We focus on helping patients regain mobility, strength, and independence during their stay. Our physiotherapists work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure each rehabilitation journey is safe, personalized, and effective.

What to Expect During Your Therapy

  1. A complete first check-up and a personalized treatment plan, which may include:
    • Manual therapy and joint mobilization
    • Breathing exercises and sputum mobilization
    • Tailored exercise programs
    • Exercises to help you walk safely and improve your balance
  2. Close collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team
  3. Use of modern equipment, and when applicable, supervised care by physiotherapy interns

Physiotherapy support is provided only during your hospital stay at CMC. After discharge, if necessary, you and your general practitioner can arrange any continued physiotherapy & rehabilitation at an external facility.

Important to Know

Physiotherapy services at CMC are provided only to admitted patients at CMC. Upon discharge, patients may receive a home exercise program.

As part of our commitment to education and quality care, some sessions may be supported by supervised physiotherapy interns. You will be informed beforehand if this applies to your treatment.

Conditions We Treat

Our physiotherapists provide care exclusively to hospitalized patients at CMC for a range of medical conditions, including:

  • Orthopedic conditions requiring in-hospital rehabilitation, such as post-operative recovery after hip, knee, or back surgery
  • Physical pain that affects mobility during admission, including chronic conditions and herniated discs
  • Neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injury, or brain injury requiring acute inpatient therapy
  • Respiratory conditions that require physiotherapeutic support such as breathing exercises or sputum clearance during hospitalization
  • Reduced mobility or functional decline due to prolonged illness or bed rest while admitted.
