CMC Shines a Light on Premature Babies for World Prematurity Day

Willemstad, November 14th, 2023 – On World Premature Day, November 17th, Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) will highlight the significance of premature births by disseminating crucial information on available medical care, causes of premature birth, and the pivotal role of parental involvement in the process.

This information will be accessible starting November 16th on CMC’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
The reality is that premature births can affect any family. Globally, one out of every 10 babies is born prematurely. In the year 2023, until today November 14th, CMC provided care for a total of 52 premature babies. The causes of premature birth are diverse, ranging from HELLP syndrome, which is life-threatening pregnancy complication, to a spontaneous premature birth. However, the parents of these resilient infants can find solace in knowing that the dedicated professionals at CMC relentlessly strive to offer each premature baby the best chance at a healthy life.
CMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) comprises 12 specialized beds and can accommodate infants born as early as 24 weeks. Notably, the hospital’s NICU extends its services to patients from all our sister islands within the Dutch Kingdom.
