Update regarding influenza and COVID-19 situation

WILLEMSTAD, JANUARY 12, 2024 – The current situation in regards to Influenza and COVID-19 patients at the Curaçao Medical Center [‘CMC’] is under control. Currently there are 18 influenza patients and 7 COVID-19 patients hospitalized. It is important to note that most of these patients have underlying conditions and therefore require additional treatment.

CMC requests all patients who have any flu-like symptoms such as coughing, runny nose, sneezing, pain behind the sternum, sore throat, joint pain and fever up to 39°C and have a surgery scheduled, to consult their Chief Practitioner and inform the Capacity Planning department of CMC (tel: 745-000 ext. 2380) before their surgery appointment. All elective surgeries for patients with flu-like symptoms will be rescheduled in order to safe-guard the patient. CMC reiterates that there is no cause for concern regarding health care capacity management.

To manage the current situation, CMC is implementing similar protocols as COVID-19, which means that these influenza/COVID patients are treated in a separate isolated influenza/COVID areas of the specific departments of CMC. CMC advises to wear a face mask when necessary or in enclosed spaces with crowds to protect yourself and others if you experience these symptoms. If these symptoms occur after 5 P.M. please contact urgent care (HAP) at 9252 (free of charge) on weekdays between 5 P.M. and 8 A.M. and on weekends and national holidays during 24-hours.
