WILLEMSTAD, 21 of May 2024 – Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) celebrated Nurses Day with activities to honor its dedicated nursing team. The festivities began with a traditional nurse parade from the parking garage to the east side of the CMC building, where the ceremony took place. Led by Randolph Snijders, nurses from each department, CEO Gilbert Martina, and the Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature, Javier Silvania, marched proudly.
The ceremony started with the raising of the Curaçao Medical Center flag, the Curaçao flag, and the Nurses flag. Medical Director Prof. Dr. Ingemar Merkies delivered an inspiring speech, followed by remarks from Minister Silvania, Care Manager Donata Cijntje, and President and Vice President of the Nursing Advisory Council, Carlos de Sousa de Ponte and Evelyn Benders respectively. Attendees then enjoyed refreshments to close the ceremony.
The day continued with a medical trivia scavenger hunt. Nurses were briefed about the game; with each department, participating to win amazing prizes sponsored by BlueFinn Charters, 8 the Experience, Corendon Mangrove Hotel Curaçao, Curaçao Activities, Aquafari, Delimar Spa, Glamour, and Baoase Luxury Resort. Prizes included spa treatments, excursions, exclusive hotel daypass, and lunch passes.
Adding to the celebration, each department nominated three nurses for the title of Best Nurse of the Year, with the top 20 selected by staff votes. These 20 outstanding nurses received Crocs gift cards, sponsored by Boolchand’s Curaçao.
The day concluded with a happy hour where nurses enjoyed snack boxes and drinks sponsored by Curaçao Beverage Bottling Company. Additionally, they received appreciation gifts sponsored by Bo Frei Agency. During the happy hour, the CMC band entertained the nurses, and the winners of the medical trivia scavenger hunt were announced and awarded their prizes. Furthermore, Van den Tweel Supermarket and Mangusa Supermarket sponsored packages for each care department, ensuring that all nurses felt appreciated on this special day.
