CMC announces New Medical Director

WILLEMSTAD, January 8, 2026 – Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) announces Drs. Ludmilla Garmers, a native of Curaçao, as its new Chief Medical Officer. After an extensive search, Drs. Garmers is returning home to bring her wealth of experience in medical education, hospital leadership, and acute care to the island’s healthcare system.

With a remarkable career that includes chairing the Anesthesiology and Pain Management Department, serving on hospital boards, and leading the Advisory Council of Medical Specialists, Drs. Garmers is known for her collaborative and transparent approach. She excels at guiding teams through organizational change while keeping patient safety and quality of care at the forefront.

Drs. Garmers will officially assume her role the week of March 30, 2026, and CMC looks forward to her leadership in advancing the hospital’s mission of delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality care.

CMC’s focus this year, is on strengthening its operational foundations and continuing to improve the quality of medical services and processes,” said Filia Kramp, President of the Supervisory Board. “Drs. Garmers’ expertise and vision will be invaluable as we build on the progress we’ve already achieved.”

As part of ongoing efforts to improve access to care, CMC has reduced its surgery waiting list to fewer than 600 patients—down from 2,600 just a few years ago. This reflects the hospital’s strong focus on efficiency and patient-centered care.

The Board of Directors member responsible for finance has not yet been officially appointed. The Supervisory Board is finalizing this process and will provide an update in the coming weeks.
