Willemstad, July 8, 2025 – The Supervisory Board of Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has commenced the search for a new Chief Medical Officer (CMO), with the assistance of a specialized recruitment agency. The new CMO will lead CMC further in achieving its ambitious goals, while our commitment to delivering high-quality care and excellent service remains a top priority.
As stated in the press release dated 9 May 2025, Professor Dr. Ingemar Merkies, who has been serving as the Chief Medical Officer at CMC since October 2019, has submitted his resignation, effective 31 December 2025. Professor Dr. Merkies has expressed his intention to fully focus on neurology and academic research.
In recent years, Professor Dr. Merkies has played a key role in the development of CMC into a leading healthcare facility in the Caribbean. His leadership has been crucial in improving the quality of medical care provided in Curaçao.
