Gilat theater starts in CMC

Willemstad, June 25th, 2021 – Gilat theater starts in CMC

Gilat Foundation, which provides theater for children in hospitals in the Netherlands, is launched in Curaçao as well, where it will start with virtual presentations for hospitalized children. Starting next month there will be monthly performances for the children in the Curacao Medical Center and the other sick children in Curacao. Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Dorothy Pietersz-Janga and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia (PNP, Social Development) officially opened the first (trial) performance, which took place on Friday, June 25th at the Ronald Mc Donald House.

Chairman Jair Eisenmann of the Gilat Foundation: “Theatre is the best medicine for sick children. With theater we can make them forget that they are sick for a while. It is great that we can now also offer the sick children in Curaçao a smile.”

Pediatrician Meindert Manshande of the Curacao Medical Center is pleased that the Gilat Foundation is now also active in Curacao: “We think it is fantastic that we can offer the children in our hospital this form of fun. I know Gilat from my time from the academic hospital in Amsterdam and it is therefore extra special that we now also have performances for the children in Curaçao.”

The Gilat Foundation started in 2012 and is already organizing interactive theater for children in the academic hospitals of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Groningen. The foundation was established in memory of Gilat Eisenmann, who spent most of her short life in the hospital.
