WILLEMSTAD, April 5, 2024 – In response to the increasing need for flexibility and the pursuit of a work-life balance of the global workforce, Curaçao Medical Center [‘CMC’] has evaluated and introduced the possibility of working flexible weekly hours (upon evaluation of staff occupancy within the concerning department). By introducing a flexible workhour arrangement, CMC can create an environment that enables its employees to thrive both professionally and personally and has the potential to also attract new employees who are only available part-time yet can contribute valuable knowledge.
Healthcare is a demanding sector in which dedicated employees demonstrate exceptional commitment daily. Therefore, this option will not only increase the satisfaction and involvement of the current staff at CMC, but it will also contribute to a higher level of job satisfaction and a reduction of stress and burnout. Flexible hours in the healthcare sector is more common internationally, however it is not a common practice within the healthcare sector in Curaçao and the Caribbean, therefore CMC is paving the way as one of the biggest employers on the island for new opportunities and possibilities.
Both new and current employees have the chance to choose for more flexible hours, ranging from 32 hours to 36 hours weekly. This will be introduced as a pilot which will be evaluated later on for more flexibility. While a ‘normal’ workweek will remain 40 work hours weekly (excluding possible non-structural overtime hours), the flexible working hours will be implemented within departments where occupancy allows. Choosing for flexibility gives (potential) employees the space to manage their time more efficiently and enables them to create a better work-life balance, while combining working in a state-of-the-art hospital and gaining valuable experience with further studies or their families.
Curaçao Medical Center attaches high value to its human capital. We are aware that although the healthcare sector is a demanding one, we work with humans, for humans and therefore, are striving to implement positive changes in the pursuit of a higher employee satisfaction and happiness.
