Willemstad June 7, 2024 – The board of Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is pleased to inform the public about the timeline that was agreed upon yesterday, June 6, 2024, following the Summary Proceedings between CMC and The Country. This timeline was established in consultation with the country’s attorney and Mrs. Sixiènne Jansen, advisor to the Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN). Mrs. Jansen also held a telephone consultation on this matter with the GMN minister.
The CMC board extends its gratitude to the Minister of GMN and Finance, Mr. Silvania, for his contributions to reaching the agreed timeline, as well as for the advances of NAf. 7 million for uninsured care and NAf. 1 million for transition costs.
By June 13, 2024, all seven-draft reports from KPMG will be submitted to CMC for fact checking. This process, known as hearing and rebuttal, aims to ensure the accuracy of the reports and allows CMC the opportunity to provide feedback. CMC aims to respond as promptly as possible, ideally on the next working day after receiving the reports.
By June 20, 2024, the final KPMG reports will be distributed to all relevant parties, including CMC. On this date, the court must be informed that the reports have been issued.
After the distribution of the final reports, discussions will take place between CMC and The Country on two important matters. Firstly, addressing CMC’s direct liquidity shortfall until the end of the year. After deducting the approximately NAf. 8 million received this week, approximately NAf. 27 million is still required. Secondly, establishing a timeline for decision-making within the Council of Ministers based on the KPMG reports. The Country indicated that a decision is expected no later than the end of July, with the goal of achieving a structural solution, including formalizing new tariffs, by the end of the year.
By July 1, 2024, the court must be informed whether these issues have been resolved. If not, a verdict will be issued within one week.
