WILLEMSTAD, February 1, 2024 – Curaçao Medical Center [‘CMC’] has taken note of the Inspector General’s Report which was sent to Minister of Finance and Healthcare, Environment and Nature, Mister Javier Silvania, in which the Inspector General, Dr S.O. Keli, MD, PhD, states his conclusion based on his investigation in regards to an unfortunate case of the death of a patient that was hospitalized at CMC in March 2021. With this statement CMC completely distances itself from the conclusions of the Inspector General.
The conclusion, as stated in the Inspector General’s letter and published by Minister Silvania on social media is absolutely incorrect. Both the complaints committee and the independent Medical Disciplinary Board have already ruled, after extensive investigation, that no toxic fluids were administered and that it was a natural cause of death. This is also evident from the reporting of the autopsy examination and the toxicological examination.
CMC is aware of the severity of this matter and urges the public to rest assured that extensive due diligence has been performed accordingly. CMC laments that the Inspector General includes these unfounded accusations in a final report and letter. Unfortunately, these serious allegations have prompted us to consider undertaking further legal steps. After this official statement regarding the case in question, CMC cannot make any further statements due to the confidential nature of this matter.
