Willemstad, February 27, 2025 –– Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) continues to see an increase in patients with influenza, with 16 individuals currently hospitalized. The most common complication observed is respiratory problems. While influenza cases remain present in the community, CMC reminds the public to take necessary precautions to prevent further spread.
To manage cases more effectively, CMC has implemented measures for hospitalized patients. This means that patients with Influenza will be separated from other patients in the hospital. There are two types of Influenza, namely A and B. Influenza A patients are grouped together in designated areas, separate from those with Influenza B. At this moment, the majority of cases are Influenza A. Separating these patients helps prevent the transmission of infection and ensures that they receive the appropriate treatment.
With the upcoming Karnaval celebrations and the large gatherings associated with them, there is a possibility of an increase in influenza cases in the weeks following the festivities. To minimize risk, CMC advises the public to:
- Practice good hygiene – Wash hands frequently with soap and water.
- Cover coughs and sneezes – Use a tissue to prevent the spread of germs.
- Stay home if feeling unwell – Avoid contact with others to prevent transmission.
CMC will continue monitoring the situation closely. We urge the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others.
