Update: Elective Surgery will continue gradually

WILLEMSTAD, January 29, 2026 – Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) confirms that sufficient equipment capacity is in place in the Sterilization department to safely guarantee acute, emergency, and other essential surgeries. A temporary technical solution has been implemented, enabling the hospital to gradually and responsibly resume elective care, in line with established safety standards.

The Management Team of CMC has met with the Inspector of Public Health to provide a comprehensive update on the current situation, the measures taken, and the steps underway to safeguard continuity of care. This dialogue forms part of CMC’s ongoing commitment to transparency, oversight, and regulatory alignment.

In parallel, CMC continues to work closely with relevant partners, including support from the sister islands, while awaiting the delivery of new parts from the vendor.

The Sterilization and Medical Equipment teams are operating under increased pressure and continue to demonstrate strong professionalism and dedication to ensure continuity of critical services.

As previously informed, the Planning Department will contact patients directly in case of any changes.

CMC emphasizes that patient safety remains the highest priority and that medical procedures are only performed when all safety and quality requirements are fully met.

Further communication will be shared when relevant.
